Saxonia Switzerland is spreading a forest-rich mountain country between the Lausitz mountain and the ore mountains, in the South overlap to Czech (Decinske steny), also called Saxonia-Bohemia Switzerland. Saxonia Switzerland is composed of right parallelepiped and stone from the upper chalk and average 400 meters in height, (large Zschirnstein 561 m, im Decinske Sneznik bis 726 m). The river Elbe breaks through the Saxonia Switzerland in a deep, close canyon, into wich flows other side valleys. There are boarder mountains such as lily stone, king stone, priest stone, scratch stone, forest ravines and strongly fisured rocks (Bastei). Saxonia Switzerland is the birthplace of modern free climbing. Today flows appropiately quipped mountain climbers during the whole year at each weekend to these rocks. The height of the rock towers and the difficulty of the rise lines, as well as the diversity and the large quantity of climbing goals - that is, what the climbers want to have. The character of the sandstone requires a special kind of free climbing - without hooks and loops. |
